Are you considering a career in the film industry, or are you simply fascinated by movies and would like to learn more about this amazingly dynamic art form? Excellent! Start studying the seventh art now. The Haut-Lac International School is proud to offer both IBO Middle Year Programme Film & Diploma Programme Film: two exhilarating and comprehensive two-year courses in which students study how meaning in film is constructed and learn the language that enables film makers to communicate effectively with their audience.

By viewing and examining films, students will learn to analyze the formal and narrative aspects of film and understand and appreciate how and what the film makers are expressing. Students will research the history of cinema in depth and discover the impact of technological advancements on the film industry and film narrative, as well as the lasting influence of the major film movements, particularly in Europe and the US, on modern film making.

Students will study the various film cultures, presuppositions and forces that shape the art form as we perceive it today. By examining the omnipresent Hollywood cinema industry and its European counterparts; Indian Bollywood and emerging Nigerian film industry Nollywood, well-established Hong-Kong and Japanese cinema and the Iranian independent film makers, students will come to appreciate the different perceptions of cinema and its cross-over culture.

A large part of both the MYP and DP Film courses is dedicated to the practical art of film making. Using state-of-the-art equipment, Haut-Lac students will be trained to use the equipment proficiently. Scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, lighting, audio recording, sound design, editing and visual effects: a variety of different art forms that combine in film will be mastered and put to use during the production of short films. Students will learn to write their own scripts and to collaborate closely with their fellow student-crew members on their own film productions.
